| Vocational training programs: Candidates were chosen after Gelila and Addis-based CFC social worker Etagu personally interviewed and evaluated more than 20 women. In most cases, CFC screening entails a home visit to meet candidates in their home environments. Candidates are chosen based on our assessment of their needs and motivation. Candidates are given the choice of selecting their own vocational programs as we feel it is important to empower our candidates to make their own choices and know that their success relies on their personal motivation to persevere. The funds for the training programs and the candidates' performance are monitored and managed through personal visits to the schools and discussion with instructors. When the candidates need materials for their training programs, Gelila and Etagu go with them personally to help them select and pay for the materials, thereby maintaining the CFC policy that the funds are used only for CFC stated purposes. |
